Come early and enjoy a cave tour offered by Carter
Caves State Resort Park. Admission fees to the regular cave tours are not included in
your Winter Adventure Weekend registration fee. Tickets are sold at the Welcome Center.
X Cave Tour Description: X-cave has two vertical joint
passages that meander through a large layer of limestone which puts you up-close
to many beautiful cave speleothem. Some of the highlighted features include
turkey rock, the pipe organ, and the giant column which is the largest cave
formation found at the park. Be aware of your surroundings and you will discover
how this cave became known as “X-Cave.” Tour meets in front of the Welcome
Center. Cascade Cave Tour Description: Cascade Cave is one of
the largest of over 200 caves in Carter County and is noted for its large
chambers and numerous cave formations. Highlights of the tour include the
reflecting pool in the Lake Room, the unique speleothems in the Cathedral Room,
and an underground waterfall over 30 feet high. A short drive is required. Tour
meets at Cascade area parking lot. Tickets must be purchased at least 15 minutes
prior to the tour. Tours are conducted by trained guides and are conducted at a
leisurely pace. The guides encourage questions. A light jacket is recommended
and comfortable walking shoes with tread.

TRIP #1: Historic Trip Back in Time. (Level
1) - Duration: 2 hours - Limit: 35 people - Status:

Come join us on an adventure back in time as we descend into the catacombs of Cascade Cave. We will revisit the different cave lighting techniques used over the last 2,000 years. The different techniques used by cave explorers, miners, guides and today's visitors will come to life before your very eyes. Stories will be told as well as demonstrations of earlier lighting techniques. This will give visitors today a look at how these different lighting techniques were used in the past and now in present. Following the stories and demonstrations we will be giving participants a lantern tour through North Cave and Cascade Cave on the tourist trail. Participants can get a feeling of how the cave looked to tourist before electric lights. The trip will last approximately 2 hours. Flashlight or dependable light source is required. This is a first come first serve on-site registration trip only. You can register for this trip beginning at 4pm on January 29th at the registration table in the lobby of the lodge. Meets at lodge.

TRIP #2: Mock Expedition Overnight (Level

Prepare for an expedition into the depths of the earth and your imagination. We'll take a mock multi day cave expedition to a base camp in the ancient cave system of the Cascades. Cavers will team up with Sherpa's to setup a deep base camp and share experiences and ideas of caving as we spend one Friday night in the cavern. All overnight gear is to be supplied by the participant including a required 3 sources of light. Gear must be limited to cold weather camping gear. NO CAVE GEAR DUE TO WNS. Bring caving stories, caving questions, and caving lies to share around the base camp. All participants 14yrs and under must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, no exceptions! Meets at lodge; transportation needed.
